The funny thing about all the news reports telling you they are fun and edible....They are just trying to calm our panic-prone unwashed public, and trying to prevent pandemonium as the bible toters think it's the next plague and start building an ark or some silly shit.
Look at the news report on these and see how hard they are trying to make it all look fun....Fucking cracks me up....
I was out Sunday night with a flashlight shining on the fresh emergers. When they molt out of their "mole" skin they're very pale, almost white - kinda ghostly. I wish I had a digital cam. Some of you guys should be able to see that where you are. Somebody found an ultra-rare blue-eyed cicada in VA, I think. I remember seeing one with greenish eyes the last time they were out in force. I guess being a country boy I'm one of the few outside of the scientific community who knows there are stragglers that hatch every year. They make excellent fishing bait, too.
One of God's more mysterious and fascinating creations.

the male will have sex with the female, place a plug in her so no one else can have sex with her, and then he'll go off to have sex with others.
